2월 17일 - 문 열기 (마태복음 28:16~20)

¹⁶ 열한 제자가 갈릴리에 가서 예수께서 지시하신 산에 이르러

¹⁷ 예수를 뵈옵고 경배하나 아직도 의심하는 사람들이 있더라

¹⁸ 예수께서 나아와 말씀하여 이르시되 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니

¹⁹ 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고

²⁰ 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라

리 시포드는 미국 스포츠에 있어서 중요한 이름입니다. 그는 프로골프협회(PGA) 투어에 참여한 첫 번째 아프리카계 미국인 선수가 되었는데, 1961년까지만 해도 그 협회 내규에는 “백인 전용” 이란 문구가 있었습니다. 인종적인 불의와 폭력을 감수하고, 시포드는 게임의 최고 수준까지 올라가 두 개의 대회에서 우승했고, 2004년에는 아프리카계 미국인으로서는 처음으로 세계 골프 명예의 전당에 이름을 올렸습니다. 찰리 시포드는 모든 민족의 프로골프선수들을 위한 문을 열어주었습니다.

 문을 연다는 것은 복음 선교의 중심에 있는 주제이기도 합니다. 예수님은 말씀하셨습니다. “그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝 날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라”(마28:19~20).

 “족속”(19절) 이란 단어는 그리스어 ‘에스노스’에서 온 말로 민족이란 말의 출처이기도 합니다. 다른 말로 말하면 “가서 모든 민족들을 제자로 삼으라”는 말입니다. 예수님은 십자가에서 죽으심으로 모든 사람들에게 하나님께로 나아가는 길을 열어주셨습니다.

 하나님께서 우리를 돌보신 것처럼 지금 우리에게도 다른 사람들을 돌볼 수 있는 특권이 있습니다. 개인적으로 환영받으리라고 꿈도 꾸지 못하고 있는 누군가를 위하여 우리는 하나님의 집과 하나님의 가족 안에서 인도하는 문을 열 수 있습니다.

◈ 주님, 오늘 제가 만나는 사람들에게 민감할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 주님에 관하여 다른 사람에게 이야기할 수 있는 말씀들을 제게 주소서.

예수님은 믿고자 하는 모든 사람들에게 구원의 문을 열어주셨다.

Opening Doors

Charlie sifford is important name in American sports. He become the first African-American playing member of the Professional Golfers Association(PGA) Tour, joining a sport that, until 1961, had a "whites only" clause in its by-laws. Enduring racial injustice and harassment, Sifford earned his place at the game's highest level, won two tournament, and in 2004 was the first African-American inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Charlie Sifford opened the doors of professional golf for players of all ethnicities.

Opening doors is also a theme at the heart of the gospel mission. Jesus said, "therefore go the make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age"(Matt. 28:19-20).

The word nations(v.19) is from the Greek word ethnos, which is also the source of the word ethnic. In other words, "Go and make disciples of all ethnicities." Jesus' work on the cross opened the way to the Father for everyone.

Now we have the privilege of caring for others as God has cared for us. We can open the door for someone who never dreamed they'd be welcomed personally into the house and family of God. bill Crowder
